Have you ever been woken up by the noise of a construction site downstairs? I experienced once. Furious as I was, I dialed the government service hotline 12345. Three days later, someone called me and promised me that such things would not happen again.
Then I realized how effective the government service hotline is. That's why I kept calling them and I can always get instant and good replies.
But why such a hotline would become so important？
The answer is quite simple. Our government believes in putting people in the first place. President Xi Jinping said, “this country is its people; the people are the country.” The government of 1.4 billion people shall not just focus on the GDP or economic policies from a macro perspective. It should also focus on trivial things that matter to people, because the smallest issue can become a massive event due to the sheer size of our population. Only by this can the governments build up connections and trusts with all people to achieve modernization of a huge population.
People-orientation is not just a slogan we repeat, but a powerful action we take every day. In February this year, the 12345 hotline in Guangzhou city alone had received more than one million calls, and more than 80% issues were rated satisfied. In 2022, Zhejiang Province handled 82 thousand legal aid cases for people in need. By the end of the same year, over 300 million doses of COVID vaccine were administered nationwide to protect our health and safety.
These examples are the epitome of the vision of people-orientation. It is the guiding principle that drives us towards modernization. We have kept doing this, and we will be doing this.
