• Ladies and gentlemen,
• Do you remember what happened during the past 3 years of the pandemic? If you lived in China, you must remember the days when you have to keep a green health code or abide by quarantine regulations. At that time, free vaccination plans, regular covid tests and dynamic travel policies are carried out nationwide, leaving no one out.
• So what’s the purpose of all these actions? In my opinion, they reflect the essence of "the modernization of a huge population", which is my central topic today. These actions are for the benefit of all people, regardless of age, wealth, or social status, and for their better life.
• President Xi once said, “this country is its people; the people are the country.”The people are the creators of history, and the foundation of a prosperous nation. So we must seek benefits for all people, rather than sacrificing the interests of one group for the sake of another group.
• But after all, China is a country with more than 1.4 billion people, how do we meet the benefits of all of them? Before answering this question, I’d like to a more specific question: We are here in Changsha, a mega city with no big power plants nearby. So will we need to worry that we would one day run out of electricity? Thanks to the Chinese government, the answer is an absolute no. China has a larger population in the east, but more electricity and gas in the west. So we built special pipes to transport electricity and gas from the west to the east. In this way, all people have the adequate amount of energy, not too much and not too less.
• With this example we can see that Chinese path to modernization is to take all people into account, and implement scientific macro measures, such as large-scale construction projects. There are more similar examples, such as the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and the East-to-West Computing Resources Diversion Project. They also indicates one of our advantages. Because of our huge population, we can coordinate all our efforts to complete key national undertakings.
• All in all, the Chinese path to modernization is to seek benefit of all people via scientific implements. I believe China has provided a feasible solution of modernization to the world.
